A day after his sensational success in the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has testified in the trial against him, where he is accused of two alleged tax violations.
The Italian has stated that he never intended to defraud the Treasury, that neither the club nor his advisers warned him that anything was wrong and that he, for his part, simply negotiated a net salary.
Ancelotti explained that it was Real Madrid that offered him a share of his salary, specifically 15%, through the transfer of image rights, about which he said:
"At that time, all the players had a similar contract. Even the previous coach, Jose Mourinho, had the same structure, it seemed completely normal to accept it ."
The Madrid provincial court began the trial of the Italian coach on Wednesday. The prosecution is seeking four years and nine months in prison for the charge of defrauding the Treasury of just over one million euros. Ancelotti himself has denied the charges. The trial will continue today, when a decision is expected to be made regarding the Real coach. His wife also testified in favor of the Italian coach.
