The Albanian Football Federation has entrusted the management of the Albanian National Team to Italian coach Rolando Maran. At the age of 62, the Italian coach will lead the Rossoneri in the Nations League matches and in the EURO 2028 qualifiers.
Maran's appointment confirms the continuation of the Italian influence on Albanian football in recent years, both in terms of technical aspects and in the selection of coaches who have come from Serie A and Serie B.
During his official presentation, Maran emphasized that he had good knowledge of Albanian footballers, as he had played against many of them in the Italian championship. However, the Italian coach has also collaborated directly with several Albanian players or former national team footballers.
One of the most well-known names is that of Edgar Çani. The Albanian striker was part of Catania during the period when the team was managed by Maran, in 2014.
Later, during his adventure at Kievo, the Italian coach also had Armando Vajushi, another former Albanian national team player, under his orders.
Maran's most recent experience with Albanian footballers came at Brescia, where in the 2024-2025 seasons he managed midfielder Emanuele Ndoj, once one of the most expensive Albanian players, as well as Albania U21 talent Zylyf Muça.
In his career, Maran has also worked with other footballers of Albanian origin who have not represented the Albanian national team, including Përparim Hetemaj, Valon Behrami and Andrea Isufaj.
