Portugal has released the official list of players invited for the 2026 World Cup. Coach Roberto Martínez presented the group of 27 players, with most of the names expected.
The only surprise on the list is the inclusion of Nelson Semedo. The Fenerbahçe defender is one of four options Portugal have on the right side of defense for the final tournament.
Before the start of the World Cup, the Lusitanian national team will play two more friendly matches. The Lusitanians will face Chile on June 6 and Nigeria on June 10.
The main focus remains on Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been included again in Roberto Martínez's list. The veteran striker will participate in the sixth World Cup of his career, after the editions of "Germany 2006", "South Africa 2010", "Brazil 2014", "Russia 2018" and "Qatar 2022".
With this achievement, Ronaldo sets a historic record, becoming the first player to be selected for six World Cups. This record can only be equaled by Lionel Messi, if the Argentine is included in coach Lionel Scaloni's list for the 2026 World Cup.
The 41-year-old also holds the all-time international scoring record, with 143 goals in 226 matches for Portugal. Meanwhile, Messi has 116 goals in 198 matches for Argentina.
Ronaldo has scored eight goals in the previous five World Cups. This summer's tournament, which will feature 48 teams for the first time, is expected to be the last major international competition of the Portuguese star's career.
