FIFA concerns beginning 4 months before the World Cup, the opening stadium risks

Concerns have increased regarding the timely completion of work on the legendary Estadio Azteca stadium, which is scheduled to host the opening match of the 2026 World Cup in Mexico City.

The major tournament will start on June 11, 2026 and for the first time in history will be organized in three countries: the United States of America, Mexico and Canada. According to the current schedule, the first challenge of the competition, between the Mexican national team and South Africa, is scheduled to take place at the "Azteca", one of the most iconic facilities in world football.

However, serious doubts have emerged in recent weeks about the pace of work on the stadium. The renovation process appears to be far from complete, raising questions about whether the facility will be fully ready to host the biggest global football event.

The situation could also have a direct impact on the performance of several national teams, including England led by coach Thomas Tuchel. If the "Three Lions" are ranked first in their group, there is a possibility that they will face Mexico in the 1/8 stage, with the match that, according to the current scenario, would take place at the "Azteca".

Recent footage of the stadium's condition has been released by YouTuber Armand Alehandre, who has visited the facility up close. In the video he shared, work is underway on the exterior of the facility, while the reconstruction process continues inside the stadium.

With only four months left until the start of the World Cup, it remains to be seen whether the works will be completed within the expected deadlines and whether the "Estadio Azteca" will be ready to host the opening match of the tournament.
