Granit Xhaka is one of the best midfielders in Europe's top 5 leagues this season, but not many people know the secret behind his huge improvement at Bayer Leverkusen.
Xhaka spent seven years at Arsenal before leaving last summer to join the German Bundesliga side under former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso.
The Swiss midfielder has reinvented his game and is one of the best players in the squad, which is still unbeaten this season and tops the Bundesliga table.
Per Stats24, he has the highest passing accuracy rate in the German league at 92.6%, and is also the player with the most passes in the last 16 meters in Europe's top 5 leagues with 129 passes.
Some of the best coaches in the world are midfielders and Xhaka could be one of them in the near future as he has started working towards his UEFA A coaching licence.
Xhaka spoke about his journey as a future coach and the collaboration with Markus Fjortoft. He revealed that he has been devoting one day a week to the coach of German 5th division team Union Netelal, which has helped improve his understanding of the game.
" Since I've done my training, I'm playing differently, that's the truth. I see the game of football differently, I look much further. "A lot of people talk about talent and football, but they forget about the mentality side ," he told EuroFoot.
His Arsenal career was fading before Mikel Arteta took charge of the Gunners and turned Xhaka's situation around in London.
" Spanish coaches, the way they see football is different from other coaches in my opinion ", added Xhaka.
