Gianluca Roki, a well-known figure in Italian football and former referee designer for Serie A and Serie B, has been placed under investigation by the Milan Prosecutor's Office for complicity in sports fraud. The case has attracted widespread attention due to Roki's high profile and his role in Italy's refereeing system.
His lawyer, Antonio D'Avirro, has reacted publicly, denying the allegations and highlighting his client's psychological state.
According to D'Avirro, Roki considers himself innocent and harmed by the situation:
" I met him, he is demoralized because he considers himself a victim of injustice. He believes these accusations are unfounded ."
The lawyer adds that Roki has always acted in accordance with the rules:
" He has always behaved with correctness and transparency, so he is concerned that such a serious accusation is being attributed to him ."
The defense is preparing for the next legal steps, while Roki is expected to be heard by prosecutor Mauricio Ascione:
" I don't know if he'll come back, but we'll know how to defend ourselves well. We're evaluating what legal steps we'll take before Thursday ."

D'Avirro has rejected any parallels with the well-known "Calciopoli" scandal, highlighting the differences in scale and involvement:
" This is something else. Here we are talking about 2-3 people involved, while back then there were hundreds of people and about ten clubs ."
