Jose Mourinho has emerged as the leading candidate to take over at Real Madrid, according to a report by renowned journalist David Ornstein. Club president Florentino Perez is said to favor the Portuguese coach's return to the Santiago Bernabeu, personally leading the selection process.
However, sources close to the club say that support for Mourinho is not unanimous within Real Madrid's structures. Despite this, Perez's influence in decision-making positions the 63-year-old as one of the strongest candidates for the job.
One factor that could facilitate the transfer is the release clause in Mourinho's current contract with Benfica, which is reported to be around €3 million.
Real Madrid are looking for a new coach following the expected departure of Alvaro Arbeloa at the end of the season. Although there is no official confirmation yet, his departure is now considered inevitable.
The list of candidates for the Madrid bench includes several well-known names in European football, but three of them are considered the most realistic: Jurgen Klopp, Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho.
On the other hand, Mourinho himself has also given signals that he is open to a return to Madrid in the summer. It is reported that he is ready to end his collaboration with Benfica if an agreement is reached with Real Madrid.
