Two years in a row, the best coach in Kosovo, twice champion with the Balkans and twice in a row part of the group stage in the Conference League. How many doubles for Ilir Daja in these two seasons in the Balkans!
However, the third truth and dream that he has in his career as a coach is to pass the groups, but above all in the near future, to lead a club in one of the strong European leagues. The 57-year-old from Tirana is ready for a big step and in an exclusive interview for "Panorama Sport", he tells everything about his career and what he dreams of doing as a coach in the future.
Daja also has something for Orges Sheh, Partizan, Tirana, but not only. The champion coach with the Balkans in Kosovo, Elbasan, Dinamo and Skenderbeu in Superiore, also shows why he admires Pep Guardiola.
With Balkan you have won practically everything, what more can you do in this club. What is your dream?
" In these two years, in addition to the results we got, we also had such a dynamic, which we achieved by transferring some players to stronger championships. This is another positive element of the Balkans, because three players of the formation such as Rrahmani, Krasniqi and Korenica, who are already playing in Romania and Turkey, have been sold. We also had the injury of Emërlau, who in his position is one of the best in Kosovo. However, we have introduced young people and we have had explosions like Zyba, who has become one of our main players in the formation. All this dynamic is not easy, since in the first year we feel the change more. We replaced very important players in the most delicate moments of the season, also taking quality names such as Kryeziu, Hamidi, etc. To answer more specifically your question about what I want to achieve, the dream with the Balkans is to pass the group. This edition we tried to do it, we tried and we had the chances, but we didn't succeed. Maybe it can be the third truth in 2024. We are more mature, with more experience and we have drawn conclusions about what we should do. Repeating success is sometimes much more difficult than achieving success. We will try not to leave this dream in the drawer ", said Daja to Panorama newspaper.
Have you had official offers in the last few months, tell us something?
" Yes, I had offers from several foreign teams, but since I am under contract with Balkan until June 2024, I addressed them directly to the club. I told them to talk to the club, at least for those offers that I liked. There have been clubs in Europe, both close to Albania and far away, in very strong championships. They have contacted me, but as long as they have not been realized, it is not worth mentioning names. This is the reality. At the moment I don't think about the move, as we are focused on finishing the season as well as possible. In the first half of this championship, we made a better journey than the same period last season. Our profession has no great guarantees of continuity, so let's leave it to the future ," he said.
