Kosovo-Switzerland is never just a football match. Many Albanian players play for "Helvetët", this choice for various reasons, as the two teams will challenge each other on September 9 in the valid match for the "EURO 2024" qualifiers. The Swiss Albanian footballer, Xherdan Shaqiri, said it all in an interview given to "Blick" , on the eve of the match on Kosovar soil.
" I am a sportsman, I will give everything for Switzerland. But, out of respect for Kosovo, I will not celebrate in case of scoring a goal. My colleagues can do this.
I am convinced that we will be received positively. We don't have to worry about whistling during pre-match walks. However, we can expect to be booed by a small number of people during the match. The atmosphere will be different from last year's friendly atmosphere in Office h".
Tickets - I was 11 years old when my family left for Switzerland because of the war. But my two parents have nine siblings, you can imagine how much family there will be at Saturday's game. I received up to 50 ticket requests and luckily managed to fulfill them. For many of them, due to visas, it is not possible to come to watch a match in the USA or Western Europe. I am glad to see the people. I hope that family is more important than nationality and that family members support me. But above all, they should enjoy the game. Kosovo and the invitation - When the Football Federation of Kosovo was accepted in 2016 to play official matches, I was very happy, first of all for the people and the country. There have been opportunities for players with roots from Kosovo to change the national team. I was in talks with the officials at that time. But then came the European with Switzerland.
