La Liga has lowered the curtain for the 2025-2026 season, with just one match left to play. Tomorrow will be the clash between Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, but both teams have already secured qualification for the Champions League, so the match is not expected to have an impact on the standings.
Barcelona, declared champions of Spain, ended the season with a 2-1 defeat away to Valencia. Meanwhile, Real Madrid triumphed 4-2 against Athletic Bilbao at the “Santiago Bernabeu”. This challenge also marked the last official appearance in the Madrid shirt for Dani Carvajal and David Alaba.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and Real Betis will participate in the next edition of the Champions League. Celta Vigo secured sixth place and a ticket to the Europa League groups. Real Sociedad will also play in the same competition, which secured qualification thanks to the triumph in the King's Cup, although it ended the championship in 10th place.
Getafe won by a narrow 1-0 margin over Osasuna and secured participation in the Conference League.
The biggest drama of the last week took place at the bottom of the table, where several teams fought for survival. Girona and Mallorca are the two teams relegated from La Liga and join Real Oviedo in the Segunda Division.
Girona drew 1-1 with Elche, while Mallorca won convincingly 3-0, but failed to avoid relegation. Vedat Muriqi's team was penalized by goal difference, after ending the season with equal points with Osasuna and Levante.
The Kosovo striker scored the third goal in the win over Oviedo and finished the season with 23 goals, just two less than Kylian Mbappe, who leads the scorers list.
