The health condition of Juan Itkierdo, the Uruguayan footballer of Nacional, who was admitted to intensive care after suffering a heart attack on Thursday, in the middle of the match against Sao Paulo, has deteriorated in recent hours, according to a related report.
The 27-year-old defender presented "an evolution of brain damage and an increase in intracranial pressure," said the team treating him at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.
" Hospitalized since August 22, 2024, at 20:55, the patient, Juan Manuel Itkierdo, underwent new tests on Sunday, August 25. The evaluation showed progression of brain damage and increased intracranial pressure ," the post said. "Juan remains under the intensive care of doctors, dependent on mechanical ventilation," it added.
The treating doctors reported that the player was hospitalized "due to cardiac arrest of unspecified origin, due to arrhythmia".
Itkierdo fell on the field of "Morumbi Stadium" in the 84th minute of the second match of the Copa Libertadores for the 1/16 stage of the competition against Sao Paulo.
