The Albanian national football team faces a difficult mission on the road to the final stage of the 2026 World Cup. On March 26, the red and black team will play in Warsaw against Poland in the single match of the “play-off” stage. If qualified, Albania will face the winner of the “play-off” match between Ukraine and Sweden in the final.
On the eve of this decisive match, the national team midfielder, Juljan Shehu, was invited to the Polish podcast "Meczyki", where he spoke about the match against Poland and Albania's chances. Shehu, who has been active for several seasons in the Polish championship with Udzju Lodz, is considered a good connoisseur of rivals.
" I believe that everything will be decided by the details. It is a very difficult match, despite Poland having the advantage of the field and the fans. We have played against Poland three times in the last two years and we know each other well. Poland has a very strong team ," said the 27-year-old.
Asked if the strongest point of Albania led by Silvinjo is the midfield, Shehu emphasized that the team's strength lies in all departments. He also spoke about the national team's playing philosophy, comparing it to the Italian style.
" We don't just have good midfielders, but quality players in every department. Our philosophy is more or less like that of Italy, as many footballers play there and coach Silvino has worked with Mancini. My role in the national team is different from that at the club, as the coach asks me for more defensive duties. We can say that we have an Italian style ," Shehu continued.
At the end of the interview, there was no shortage of jokes with the journalists in the studio, who did not wish him luck for the match.
" Don't wish me luck, but I wish you luck and the Albanian National Team ," the midfielder said with humor.
Meanwhile, Polish media outlet Goal.pl reports that during the January transfer window, Shehu was on the radar of several clubs: two in Spain, one in Italy (Serie B) and a team from Saudi Arabia. However, the footballer decided to continue his career in Poland, where he has a contract with Widzew Lodz until the summer of 2028.
Juljan Shehu has been part of Lodz since July 2022. So far, he has recorded 88 matches with the Polish club, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists.
