The football world cries! Rome cries! Former coach Carlo Macone passes away. The dean of Italian football and one of the most respected men of the ball game in the neighboring country passes away at the age of 86. The historical coach, a historical character who has spent over 60 years in Italian football, as he is still today the current record holder for the number of matches in Serie A with 792 such as a coach.
Macone managed 12 Italian teams between 1969 and 2006 including Roma, Fiorentina, Napoli as well as Roberto Baggio, Igli Tares and Guardiola's Brescia. Macone has been one of the most special coaches for Vlonia.
In 2019, the new east stand of the Ascoli Piceno stadium was named after him, and in the same year he was inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame.
Macone has coached a lot in Serie A, but with his Roma, he had a special relationship. Because it was not only a matter of football, but of the heart.
He managed the team, after playing there as a boy, from 1993 to 1996 and although he did not achieve who knows what results, he achieved an even more important goal: he entered the hearts of the people.
For that run under the section of ultra fans after the derby won 3-0 against Lazio and for the fact that, more than anyone else, he had believed in a blond boy called Francesco Toti. And to that little boy, he acted more like a father than a coach.
