Former Arsenal player Theo Walcott praised his former teammate Granit Xhaka, who has now joined Sunderland.
" A lot of people were surprised when Xhaka joined Sunderland, but he is a player who sets an example on the pitch. His passion, hunger and bravery help the team and influence the way the player sets behaviours and patterns on the pitch ," Walcott said.
He also recalled their time at Arsenal, praising Xhaka's ability to adapt to different roles and lead the team from any position in midfield.
Walcott stressed the importance of Xhaka's mentality and attitude.
" When he's in attacking positions, he sets the pressure and the tone for the team. His passion and fight rubs off on all his teammates ," Walcott said.
Commenting on Xhaka's crucial assist against Aston Villa, Walcott added: " That goal is unbelievable. It shows incredible skill and Xhaka will be very important for Sunderland to stay in the Premier League ."
