Albanian goalkeeper Klidman Lilo is making waves in Greek football after his historic success with OFI. The Cretan team won the Greek Cup after a hard-fought final against PAOK, a triumph that came after extra time and ended a 39-year wait for the trophy.
In a statement to "RTSH", the 23-year-old spoke about his experience in Greece, the atmosphere at the club and his dream of wearing the Albanian National Team jersey.
" The experience at OFI Crete, despite not having turned one year old yet, has been very nice. Everything has gone well with the team too. After 39 years we won the Greek Cup again and I am very happy for this achievement ," said Lilo.
The Albanian goalkeeper described this success as a historic moment in his career, while also showing his emotions during the celebrations.
" It was a historic moment and I am proud to be part of it. Like every player who had the flag of his country, I also carried the Albanian flag. I want to thank Greece for everything it has offered me and my family ," he declared.
Lilo also spoke about the fans' connection to the club from Crete, emphasizing the great support the team enjoys.
"There are many ardent OFI fans in Crete and they follow the team everywhere ," said the goalkeeper.
In the interview, he also touched on the figure of former Albanian goalkeeper Arjan Beqja, who is considered a legend of the Greek club.
" Arjan Beqja is a legend on this team. Everyone speaks the best words about him and what he has done for the club. When I came here in the summer, my father told me that you are the second Albanian to play for this team, after Beqja ," Lilo said.
The goalkeeper revealed that he met with the former Albanian guard at the end of last year.
" I met him in December and he's a very nice man. I have a lot of respect for him ," he added.
Lilo also recalled his experience with the Albanian U-21 National Team, thanking coach Alban Bushi for his trust.
" I have been active with the Albanian U-21 team and this has made me very happy and proud. I want to thank coach Alban Bushi for giving me the opportunity ," he said.
As for his future goals, the Albanian goalkeeper does not hide his desire to receive an invitation from the National Team A.
" My dream, like every player, is to be part of the great national team. It's something I'm really looking forward to and I hope it comes as soon as possible ," Lilo declared.
Finally, he also showed his idols among the pillars.
" The goalkeeper I've always liked is Manuel Neuer. I can also mention Buffon ," concluded the 23-year-old Albanian.
