Newcastle's Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali was banned from international football for ten months in October after breaking betting rules.
Those infractions came from his time in Italy, before Newcastle spent €70m last summer. His agent said at the time that the 23-year-old suffered from a gambling problem.
But apparently the old habit is hard to get out of Tonali. On Thursday, the English Football Federation (FA) reports that Tonali is accused of breaking betting rules in England as well.
Sandro Tonali has been charged with misconduct in connection with an alleged breach of FA betting rules, the association writes.
The FA believe Tonali bet money on football matches 50 times between August 12 and October 12, the same day he was questioned about breaches of rules by Italian football.
Newcastle wrote in a message on its website that they have been made aware of the allegation. They write that Tonali has the full support of the club in the investigation. Beyond that, neither Newcastle nor Tonali have declined to comment on the matter. Tonali has until April 5 to respond to the accusation.
