Vinicius Junior has demanded a salary at the level of Cristiano Ronaldo's last contract at Real Madrid, according to recent reports.
The Brazilian's current contract expires in the summer of 2027, while Madrid's leaders began talks for renewal during the second half of last season, with the aim of keeping the Ballon d'Or runner-up under contract.
Real Madrid offered the 25-year-old £17.5m a year, an increase from the £15.8m he currently earns after tax. After the offer was rejected, Vinicius' representatives demanded £26m a year, a figure that would come close to matching the club's biggest contract, that of Cristiano Ronaldo.
After that, the talks were suspended, while the situation was complicated by the tense relationship between the player and coach Xabi Alonso. According to the media, Vinicius does not intend to sign a new contract as long as Alonso remains in charge of the team.
The tension was also evident during the 2-1 win over Barcelona in El Clasico, where Vinicius reacted angrily when he was substituted, before apologizing after the match, without mentioning the coach in his statement.
Despite this, Alonso played down the incident and even entrusted the captain's armband to the Brazilian in a European match. Meanwhile, Vinicius' name continues to be linked with a possible move to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Ahli as the rumoured destination and an offer that could reach £302m, breaking any transfer record in football history.
