Turkish authorities have uncovered the activities of an organized illegal betting network and have reacted immediately, continuing with a wide-ranging operation with hundreds of arrests.
According to the Turkish press, 29 more arrests of suspects allegedly involved in the case have been made in the last 24 hours, indicating that the investigations are at their peak.
Among those arrested are well-known names in Turkish football, such as former Galatasaray vice-president Erden Timur and Eyupspor vice-president Fatih Kulaksiz. The scandal has sent shockwaves through the sports world in Turkey, with developments expected to accelerate in the coming days.
In detail, the announcement from the Public Prosecutor's Office states:
"Within the framework of the investigation conducted by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Turkey and known to the public as the "Football Betting Investigation":
Based on information received from MASAK (Economic Crime Combating Service) and from legal betting platforms, investigations into open sources, decisions of the Football Disciplinary Committee (PFDK), HTS (telecommunication data) analyses and review of digital evidence seized in two previous operations, the following emerged:
-7 suspects who are linked to a person already detained from previous operations and are assessed to have carried out suspicious financial transactions related to the object of the investigation.
-6 suspects who placed bets on the Kashimpasha - Samsunspor match (26/10/2024) which is considered to have influenced the result.
-1 suspect, a TFF employee, whose bank account review revealed suspicious financial transactions and a betting account.
-1 suspect, a former vice-president of Galatasaray (Erden Timur), for whom the examination of the bank account revealed a violation of Article 11 of Law 6222, as well as Laws 5549 and 7258, with suspicious financial transactions related to it.
