On January 22, journalist Fatos Mahmutaj testified in SPAK regarding the "CEZ-DIA" affair that caused a damage of 414 million euros to the state budget, a file in which the chairman of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, is accused, as well as Sal e Shkëlzen Berisha.
Mahmutaj was interrogated in connection with an interview he gave to Vojsava Ismailaj in 2017. Vojsava Ismailaj, as Mahmutaj stated, accused Meta of putting pressure on her husband, even "taking money from him". The whistleblower of this affair, the well-known lawyer Romeo Kara, spoke about these developments to "SOT" newspaper.
He revealed some shocking behind-the-scenes details. Asked what will happen with this file, the lawyer said that Fatos Mahmutaj's life is in danger and this fact had been confirmed by the journalist himself in the meeting he held before testifying at SPAK. "I met him the day he came to Tirana, we had lunch together and he was worried before he went to SPAK. He stated that when he gave a testimony on the phone, he stated that he had that testimony on his laptop and the next day his laptop was stolen and the testimony was not on that laptop that was stolen. It is about a bribe taking in November, investigating myself from the control I did, the refund of the invoices was made on the 24th at 11:30. The part that my department has has finished work since November 20 and SPAK still has this information.
This is a gangrene that is in OSHE. I have not yet been notified that this case has been executed, I have no connection. On October 6, I found a network of bribe-takers in the field, but I can't be stopped from checking within the statute. I have given myself some freedom as a citizen, but when I enter a job I respect the statute. We sign based on the documentation that comes from the field.
They have accused me of being used politically. If I dealt with the CEZ-DIA case, I did not ask to receive 100 percent of the success fee, but I asked for 5 percent and from that moment I was deceived by being told that this is the policy, I continued my work and how can I be I am used politically", concluded the reaction of lawyer Romeo Kara.
