The Special Appeals Chamber held a hearing for the head of the Lezha Prosecutor's Office, Erjon Shehaj.
It is learned that the decision will be made on April 9. In the March 19 session, SPAK head Altin Dumani requested his dismissal for serious professional misconduct. Dumani argued that Shehaj had serious shortcomings in the performance of his duties and that his actions had damaged the credibility of the justice system, creating uncertainty and hindering the investigation of several important cases.
Dumani cited several cases where Shehaj had failed to follow the prescribed legal procedures, making it impossible to conduct in-depth and complete investigations. According to him, Prosecutor Erjon Shehaj had made unreasonable decisions to discontinue investigations, without implementing legal requirements for collecting evidence and without utilizing the opportunities that the law offers to conduct in-depth investigations in several major cases.
One of the most serious violations identified by Dumani was Shehaj’s decision to close the investigation into an individual accused of high-level corruption, without considering the facts and evidence that indicated that this individual may have committed criminal offenses. Dumani stressed that, instead of conducting further investigations, Shehaj had closed the file without a detailed analysis of the evidence and circumstances of the case.
Dumani also brought to attention several other complaints that had been made against Shehaj, including cases where the prosecutor had left unused opportunities to request security measures for individuals who were wanted, leaving them to roam freely, despite the existence of sufficient evidence to request their arrest. This, according to Dumani, had created a poor image of SPAK and had damaged citizens' trust in the justice system.
