EU Ambassador meets with Baba Mondi, Gonzato: Albania's religious harmony a value for Europe

The European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, held a meeting this Monday with the World Bektashi Grandmaster, Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj, known as Baba Mondo, where the focus of the conversation was religious tolerance in the country.

During the meeting, Gonzato praised the peaceful coexistence between religious communities in Albania, describing it as an essential value for the European Union. The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation to strengthen tolerance, solidarity, the protection of human rights and the fight against discrimination.

According to the ambassador, these elements constitute an important contribution to Albania's European integration process.

"Albania is renowned for peaceful coexistence between religious faiths, a core value also for the European Union. I discussed with Haxhi Dede Baba Edmond Brahimaj, in his capacity as Head of the Bektashi Order and Chairman of the Interreligious Council of Albania, ways in which we can cooperate to strengthen tolerance, solidarity, the protection of human rights and non-discrimination, while contributing at the same time to Albania's path towards membership in the European Union," said Silvio Gonzato, Ambassador of the European Union to Albania.
