Police patrol applications: 30% of young people fail psychological and drug

Young people with psychological problems, as well as drug users, are seeing the police as an employment opportunity.

This fact was evidenced during the competition for general patrol at the Security Academy, where a significant portion of the applicants resulted with psychological problems and drug users.

From September 1 to 21, applications were held for 350 vacant positions for general patrol at the Security Academy.

During this period, candidates submitted application documentation, to then participate in the final stages of the competition, the written and physical testing. Before these two stages, a psychological test and a health check are conducted, which also includes a drug test.

Across the country, over 1,200 young people up to the age of 30 have applied, according to the limit set by law. Sources from the Security Academy indicate that the preliminary phase of verifications is nearing completion and about 30% of applicants have not passed the psychological or drug test.

Some of them have shown significant emotional problems and difficulties in coping with stress, while others have been found to be drug users. According to the competition criteria, all these applicants will be disqualified and will not pass the final stage of the written and physical tests.

The winners who are ultimately selected attend a 9-month training at the Professional College of Police Training at the Security Academy, before being assigned to duty as State Police officers.

This phenomenon raises concerns about the emotional state of young Albanians, who face psychological problems and drug use from a young age, reflecting the social crisis and lack of psychosocial support in the country./A2
