Ten days after the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja in the courtroom, security measures and rules for the entry of citizens who are parties to court hearings have been tightened, even with an increased presence of the state police.
State Police officers are located both outside the building and inside the court premises. In addition to the scanner and metal detector checks, citizens attending court hearings and lawyers are also physically searched by security officers, under police supervision.
Unlike before, the reception for the public is now outside the building. Previously, an information board was placed that said "Public Entrance" and citizens entered directly into the anteroom in front of the scanner, but now the rule has changed.
The sign "Public Entrance" has been removed outside the entrance and a sign has been placed with the inscription "Public Reception". The security officer calls citizens one by one, depending on the session schedule, and each entrance is accompanied by a detailed check under police supervision.
These measures were imposed after the serious incident of October 6, where 30-year-old Elvis Shkambi shot and killed Judge Astrit Kalaja during a court session.
Initially, the police reported that the scanner was not working, but security footage revealed that the device had been working, while the security guard had not physically searched the perpetrator./A2
