Altin Ndoc's spectacular escape from Durres Hospital has raised alarm throughout the prison system.
After this scandal that led to arrests, suspensions and dismissals in the chain of command of Durrës Prison, measures have also been taken in other prison institutions.
The Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, has gathered all prison directors in the country in a meeting. He called for immediate measures to strengthen control and increase security. He stated that he has ordered an assessment of the security parameters at the Durrës Penitentiary Institution, including the transfer of high-risk prisoners to increased security institutions.
" Today I called a special meeting with the leaders of all the Institutions for the Execution of Criminal Decisions in the country. Following the dismissal of the director of the Durrës Penitentiary Institution following the serious incident and the immediate suspension of the entire chain of responsibility, I have requested urgent measures to strengthen control, increase security and prevent the introduction of illegal items into prisons."
"I asked the General Directorate of Prisons to conduct an assessment of the security parameters and redistribution of the Durrës Penitentiary Institution, considering the transfer of dangerous convicts or pre-trial detainees to high-security prisons ," Lamallari declared.
He described prison security as an "absolute priority," while warning that any attempt to challenge order and the authority of the law directly violates public safety and will face legal consequences.
" I have ordered the Internal Control Service in the Prison System to increase the frequency of inspections in all prisons in the country, to prevent any possible attempt to violate security. Security in prisons is an absolute priority and no form of negligence or violation of standard procedures will be tolerated. Any attempt to challenge order, security and the authority of the law in prisons also violates public safety, trust and cooperation with law enforcement agencies and justice institutions. In any case, those responsible will be legally confronted without compromise and without wasting time with the consequences of their actions ," the minister further said.
Altin Ndoci escaped the police while undergoing several medical examinations. He was being treated for a lung infection when he asked to go to the toilet. But suddenly, during the escort, he hit the security guard who was alone and then quickly left the ward.
An Audi A7 car was waiting in the parking lot, the license plates of which turned out to have been reported stolen a few days earlier. The perpetrators who helped Ndoc escape planned the plan in detail.
