Journalist Artan Hoxha has reappeared in the media after being investigated by SPAK for connection to crime. Invited to Çim Peka Live on SYRI TV, he made a strong statement regarding the influence of the gambling industry on politics and especially on election campaigns.
He emphasized that revenues from this industry, controlled through politically connected companies and criminal organizations, will be among the main sponsors of the upcoming campaign. Hoxha raised the concern that these companies, which operate without paying duties and keep territories under control, use economic power to influence the political life of the country.
According to him, this interconnected system between politics and criminal groups deepens corruption and undermines the integrity of democratic processes. "This money will be essential for financing the campaign," he said, underlining a worrying reality for Albanian democracy.
" Today gambling works in this way: a legal company, or more precisely a company that has ties to the government, because today you cannot open any salon, anything, without arranging it with the police. It is like the work of call centers.
You are obliged, and the police are also obliged because the order comes from above. Today it works like this: you have a company that is waiting to be legalized, but they have no interest in legalizing it. There is an organization behind it. Do you know why you need an organization? Because it is able to collect debts, keep opponents away, because it is an illegal market. They come there and put pressure on you. So how can you function at gambling if you don't have someone to protect your arms?
I am saying today, in every big city of Albania, the territories are separated and no operator can enter. If you try to get into gambling illegally, they will come to the door. Everything is separated: you have one of these legal companies with ties to the government and an organization behind it.
Today, you will see the income coming from this industry in the upcoming campaign, where they will be among the main sponsors. For them, this is just money, income without any obligation. They simply keep the territory under control ", said journalist Hoxha.
