The Ministry of the Interior and the State Police today announced the end of a major anti-drug operation across the country, saying they have destroyed many groups and arrested hundreds of people.
Investigative journalist Artan Hoxha said that the anti-drug operation was carried out over the last 8 months, as the director of the State Police also said during the press conference.
Hoxha added that the police operation targeted small distributors, but not those who supply them.
"The operation that was exposed today to the public and the media is a move that the police have been making for 8 months in a row. 28 groups were not caught in one night, nor were 230 people, because we do not have the physical possibility to carry out such large-scale operations. This operation started at the end of January and the data was published today, so it appeared such a large balance.
In the statement of the director of the State Police, it was said: We started 8 months ago and the operation aimed to hit the retail distribution, which distributes narcotics near schools, gymnasiums or in the populated neighborhoods of the country's big cities. The motto that the traffickers have is "Your children are our future" and we seem to have taken the gist of it and are hitting it there. But to succeed in the distribution network, the capillary system that supplies the distribution must be hit. Cocaine or heroin are not produced in Albania.
We also saw some drugs that are not produced in Albania, including synthetic drugs. During this year, there was a kind of political will from the south to the north to hit every parcel," said Hoxha for "The Unexposed".
