Former President Bamir Topi stated that Sali Berisha and Edi Rama have not interfered with each other, but with democracy and Albania's normal progress towards Europe.
Topi said that Berisha and Rama have made a pact that, according to him, one will stay at the head of the government as long as he lives, while the other will take over the opposition institution as long as he lives.
"The conditions have been created for one to remain at the head of the government as long as he lives, while the other takes over the institution of the opposition as long as he lives. The problems in Albania have to do with the Constitution, the institutions, and in Europe we are not led by just one individual. The road to Europe starts in 1992, with the great desire of the society. There was a situation where people really dreamed of Europe and as early as 1995 we became members of the Council of Europe. In 2006, when PD was in power again, we were in Luxembourg to sign the Association-Stabilization agreement. Therefore, the progress towards Europe cannot be attributed to an individual or an institution, but a long journey started in 1992.
"Sali Berisha and Edi Rama have hindered not each other, but democracy and Albania's normal progress towards Europe," said Topi on A2CNN.
