Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu spoke about the May 11 elections. He described the US Embassy's congratulations to the Albanian people as a clear message that the US has recognized the elections.
Spahiu said that if Berisha misuses the message, then there could be a harsh statement from the State Department.
"For 3 days, opposition leaders have been using the US's silence as a lack of recognition of the elections, and this message put the lid on whether they recognize the elections or not. Those who want to read it from a different perspective, if the DP misinterprets and misuses the embassy's congratulations, it is no wonder that there will be a harsh reaction from the US. If they do not know how to read a message, it will be followed by other consequences. It is a clear message congratulating the Albanian people on the elections and not congratulating them if the elections were manipulated. It is a direct message congratulating the people for the way the people expressed their will ," he told "Report TV".
For Spahiu, the lack of congratulations for Prime Minister Rama can also be interpreted as part of a new US approach towards Albania.
"America has not called for Albania not to vote for Sali Berisha or Edi Rama, they have been indifferent. When the US is going to interfere in an electoral process, they do it openly. They have clear messages. Someone could say that they did not congratulate Rama because there is a new approach of the US towards Albania. They also congratulated the German Prime Minister, but in Kosovo there is some congratulations for Kurti. Berisha, two days before the elections, said that he would be removed from non grata and to clarify a little about the date on which he will leave for the US, or has this been forgotten?" he said.
