Lawyer Brunilda Lika recounted to "Terminal" her experiences of the October 6th event, where the judge of the General Appeal, Astrit Kalaja, was killed in the courtroom.
Situated in the hall where lawyers prepare to enter court sessions, along with her colleagues, she discovered that panic gripped them when they began to hear shouts: "Guns, guns."
"The experience is understandable, it was a panic that prevailed in the building of the Court of Appeal. We were with the lawyers in the hall where we wait to enter the court sessions and there we heard from other colleagues who were in front of us in the building, where they shouted: "Guns, guns". And we were forced to gather in the Secretariat space, to be as safe as possible. It was a horror without question. It is a serious act and will remain a serious act of attack on a judge. Because it was not just an attack on a judge. This was an attack on the rule of law, on the institutions of justice, on us, the representatives of the law, but also on citizens who still believe in justice because I understand that there is an extraordinary disappointment in the justice system, on the majority of citizens but there is a part that still wants to believe in it", said Brunilda Lika in "Terminal".
She further added that "the attack showed us once again how fragile the security system is in the courts, in the institutions where the law is implemented."
"I have to be at the Court of Appeal again tomorrow for a trial. I don't know, it is undoubtedly a trauma and in fact, this event has revealed an extraordinary anger towards us, the representatives of the law...", declared the lawyer.
When asked if she was afraid before returning to her daily work in the courts, she replied: "No, I'm not afraid because I know myself professionally."
