SPAK, in the file submitted to GJKKO, where it requests the decision to control the MEK camp in Manza, Durrës, evidences that the Islamic Republic of Iran has carried out cyber attacks against Albania. Albania's institutions were affected in 20022 by cyber attacks, which as a result have disrupted the daily activity of the state police structures and various critical institutions.
According to the data, this cyber attack is suspected to have been carried out by the Iranian intelligence structures due to the fact that Albania hosts a significant number of members of the MEK organization, who are practically the opposition of the Iranian regime.
The 8-page file also mentions the note verbale that the Foreign Ministry of Iran forwarded to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which talks about three terrorist teams that were recently arrested and that were found to have trained in the camp of the MEK organization in Durrës inside the territory of the Republic of Albania.
It has also resulted that during the year 2022, the Albanian state institutions were affected by several cyber attacks which as a result have brought disruptions to the daily activity of the State Police structures and various critical institutions. On 08.09.2022, the Council of Ministers decided the termination of diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the removal of all diplomatic staff from the territory of the Republic of Albania. From the monitoring of open sources (social networks) it has been found that during the end of 2022, there was an increase in threatening rhetoric from the Islamic Republic of Iran and their Intelligence structures to carry out possible attacks, including attacks with a drone against the "MEK" organization, which has been in Albania for several years.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic has forwarded a "Note Verbale" to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, where, among other things, it is stated that according to reliable and documented intelligence provided by the security agencies of the Islamic Republic of Iran for three The recently arrested terrorist squads have been found to have trained in the camp of the "MEK" Organization in Durrës, within the territory of the Republic of Albania.
From the analysis of the data provided by the judicial police, it results that the "MEK" organization and its members, accommodated in our country, are an important target for Iran and its official representatives in Albania, reports "Shqiptarja.com".
It turns out that the People's Mujahideen Organization of Iran ("MEK") was created in 1965 as a Marxist-Islamic revolutionary group. It was created by a group of leftist students who aimed to overthrow the Shah of Iran. When the Shah was deposed, another clash began between the Mujahideen and the fundamentalists of Ayatollah Khomeni who took power. At the end of 1981 many of its members and supporters left the country and their main center of refuge became France. In 1986 the movement moved its base of operations to eastern Iraq until the invasion of Iraq. At this time it was decided that they would be kept in the "Ashraf" camp, a former Iraqi military base. They were then moved to the "Liberty" camp outside Baghdad.
