SPAK has taken over the "McGonigal" file. Agron Neza, the former Albanian intelligence agent, appeared today at the Special Prosecutor's Office.
SPAK has launched an investigation into this issue, while Dorian Diçka was also questioned earlier.
According to the file, in August 2017, McGonigal met with Agron Neza, a former Albanian agent, who has been in the US for years and has an American passport.
McGonigal solicited money from Neza and then took trips around Europe where McGonigal apparently used his position to try to generate business for Mr. Neza, prosecutors in the Washington lawsuit suggested.
We recall that former FBI official Charles McGonigal has admitted that he received $225,000 from Agron Neza, who, according to court documents, became an informant for the FBI's investigation regarding his contacts and meetings in Albania.
The guilty plea was entered in federal court in Washington in September 2023, pursuant to an agreement between prosecutors and McGonigal's attorneys.
He pleaded guilty to one count of the indictment, that of hiding material evidence, and prosecutors dropped the other eight counts.
McGonigal has also admitted that he had met several times with Prime Minister Edi Rama starting in September 2017, starting with the first meeting on September 9 in the presence of Ducka who continues to appear as person B even in the document where a reduced charge is offered.
