Residents of the “Skënderbej” neighborhood in Elbasan protested this Tuesday, denouncing the prolonged electricity shortage, which for two weeks has also directly affected the water supply. According to them, the situation has affected about 300 families, creating serious difficulties in daily life.
Outraged, residents say that despite continuous complaints to OSHEE, they have not received a concrete solution. They say they were told that the outages are related to network work and that full supply is not expected to be restored before May 4, a deadline that for them means more days without basic conditions.
The lack of power has had immediate consequences for every household. Housewives are finding it difficult to cook and maintain hygiene, while families with children and the elderly are facing the worst situation. At the same time, the lack of power has also limited the water supply, further worsening the situation.
The impact has also been felt by small businesses in the area. Grocery store owners report that the long outages have left refrigerators out of service, risking product spoilage and causing financial losses.
Residents emphasize that energy problems in this area are recurring, but the current situation is considered unacceptable and, according to them, could have been managed better, with more transparency and supply alternatives.
On the other hand, the Electricity Distribution Operator in Elbasan explains that the outage is related to the disconnection of feeder no. 7 at the “Kombinati i Drurit” substation, as part of the works for the Bitola–Elbasan–Fier interconnection line, a strategic project for the energy network. According to the OSSH, work is being done on alternative supply through other cabins and the outages are expected to be temporary, limited during technical maneuvers.
However, the outages are expected to last for about another six days, while the contractor has been asked to accelerate the work.
Residents remain waiting for a concrete solution, while they face the consequences of the lack of energy and water every day.
