Lawyer Edmond Petraj has told the Review show on Euronews Albania the moment when the well-known religious preacher, Imran Hosein, was stopped by border authorities at Rinas airport.
Petraj said he was at the airport when he noticed an increased presence of police forces who had surrounded religious preacher Imran Hosein and were explaining to him that he was not allowed to enter Albanian territory.
" I happened to be in Rinas and saw a gathering of police officers. It impressed me because it's not usual. The preacher was accompanied by two or three people. I stopped to look and I was impressed by the way they were stopping him. He was elderly, about 80 years old, and he was communicating calmly with the police officers. The way he addressed them was very calm - he asked them the reason for the stop, telling them that he had booked the hotel and the flight. From what I heard, he stayed in the transit area until he turned back ," said Petraj.
The lawyer added that in the first moments he did not understand the reason for the detention, while communication between Hosein and the police was difficult due to the language.
" The police were trying to explain the situation to him in limited English. Then some others came who spoke it better and made it clear to him that he could not enter Albania. I saw this situation myself, and then I found out from the media what it was about ," the lawyer said.
Petraj added that there were many people waiting for Hosein outside the airport, which impressed him.
" There were many of his supporters outside. From the way they were waiting for him, I understood that he was an important religious figure. But then, seeing how events unfolded, I didn't like the way that scene was created ," Petraj concluded.
