The National Water, Sewerage and Waste Treatment Agency (AKUM) reacted after the news about the closure of the water supply.
The mismanagement led to the bankruptcy of the Durrës Water Company (UKD), one of the most supported with loans and grants from donors.
But in the official response, AKUM clarifies that this decision has nothing to do with bankruptcy, but with the process of reorganization of Water and Sewer companies throughout the country.
"On January 1, 2023, the Durrës Water and Sewer Joint Stock Company has transferred its activity to the Durrës Regional Water and Sewer Company S.A., together with the other Krujë, Kavajë, Rrogozhin Water and Sewerage companies. In the transfer process, which was supervised by a group of accounting experts, all assets, rights and liabilities from the previous Water and Sewerage Companies were transferred to the new Regional Company. During the transfer process, there was no extinguishment of rights or obligations, as the Durrës Water and Sewer Joint Stock Company has transferred all its activities, including all rights and obligations according to a notarial contract, based on tax legislation and that of companies commercial,said the statement.
It is further added that the Durrës Regional Water and Sewerage Company, which covers the territory of Durrës, Kavajë, Shijak, Krujë and Rrogozhinë Municipalities, has ensured the continuity of the service and is continuously liquidating the arrears inherited from the Transferring Companies.
