The USA asks the Albanian state to start work to enable Iranian refugees the right to be included in the political and social life of Albania.
On March 20, 2024, the US Senate presented a resolution that raises the alarm about the danger posed to Albania by Iran due to the sheltering of refugees in the "Ashraf 3" camp.
The resolution , sponsored by Senators Thom Tillis, John Cornyn, Ted Cruz, John Boozman, Jeanne Shaheen, Chris Coons and Cory Booker, addresses the growing threats posed by the Iranian regime to Iranian refugees and several demands on the Albanian state.
The resolution calls for increased US-Albania cooperation in order to provide the necessary conditions to protect the political refugees located in the "Ashraf 3" camp.
The USA asks the Albanian state to start work to enable Iranian refugees the right to be included in the political and social life of Albania. Triggered by the tensions created a year ago in the "Ashraf3" camp between the police and Iranian refugees, the US seems to have set a "red line" for our country, asking it to enable the Iranians the right to protest and property protection.
“The Senate affirms that Iranian political refugees in Ashraf-3 in Albania should be afforded their basic rights, including freedom of expression and assembly, and the ability to engage in legitimate political activities in Albania. The Senate calls on the US government to take prompt and appropriate action, in accordance with international law, to help Albania ensure and protect all fundamental rights of Ashraf-3 residents. This includes the right to life, liberty, security, protection of property and freedom of expression and assembly ," the resolution states.
The US Senate has also called to ignore Interpol's calls for the extradition of various people who are in Camp Ashraf 3. This with the justification that these orders are issued without criteria and with a political background from Iran.
" The resolution strongly opposes the misuse of INTERPOL red notices by the Iranian regime to impose restrictions or seek the extradition of Iranian dissidents to Iran ," the resolution further states.
The resolution also highlights the increasing terrorist activities of the Iranian regime, the main state sponsor of terrorism. The Senate resolution condemns Tehran's support for terrorist activities, threats to commercial shipping and attacks on US forces.
The main points of the resolution:
Protection of Fundamental Rights: The Senate affirms that Iranian political refugees in Ashraf-3 in Albania should be afforded their fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and assembly, and the ability to engage in lawful political activities in Albania.
Condemnation of Iranian actions: The resolution strongly condemns the Iranian regime's threats and actions against Albania, including large-scale cyber attacks against Albania to pressure the Albanian government to undermine or end its hosting of Iranian political refugees in Ashraf-3.
Support from the US Government: The Senate calls on the US Government to take prompt and appropriate measures, in accordance with international law, to help Albania ensure and protect all the fundamental rights of its residents of Ashraf-3. This includes the right to life, liberty, security, protection of property and freedom of expression and assembly.
Objecting to misuse of INTERPOL: The resolution strongly opposes the misuse of INTERPOL red notices by the Iranian regime to impose restrictions or seek the extradition of Iranian dissidents to Iran.
Continued cooperation: The resolution calls for continued and regular cooperation between the US Government, the Government of Albania and the residents of Ashraf-3 to guarantee their full protection and basic rights.
The Senate also emphasizes that it recognizes the important international support for the Iranian Resistance, especially Mrs. Maryam Rajavi's Ten-Point Plan for the Future of Iran./ Pamphlet
