Republican Party Chairman Fatmir Mediu has dismissed the significance of the 'non-grata' status for former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, describing it as an unfounded story.
During an interview with Euronews Albania, Mediu emphasized that the US State Department's statements regarding this issue were political and not legal, adding that Berisha is free to apply for a visa to visit the United States of America.
"Chris LaCivita was a campaign manager, he had a campaign management contract, and he is prohibited by law from lobbying. LaCivita has emphasized that he does not conflict with the interests of the American administration and that he is in constant contact with the American administration about what it is doing in Albania. He would not sacrifice his relationship with the administration to help Berisha. Non-grata is a useless story.
Trump's main campaign manager was on Berisha's side. The US State Department emphasized in a statement three days before the elections that the decision on the non-grata status is a political decision with which we do not agree. Berisha is free to apply for a visa to come to the US," Mediu said.
