With Trump's rise to power, "friendship" with America remains the "American dream" for many politicians around the world, including our country.
The American Embassy in Tirana held a celebration yesterday in the framework of the 249th anniversary of America's independence! What stood out, unlike other years, was the small number of politicians and senior officials who were present at this dinner.
It seems that the effect of the new Trump administration in terms of foreign diplomacy has begun to be reflected in our country. The embassy is increasingly distancing itself from political parties and individual names, an order clearly coming from the Trump administration, which has put the entire diplomatic corps worldwide in a filtering process that is expected to end in September.
This new type of approach was seen by the small number of politicians invited to this embassy event, with Chargé d'Affaires Nancy VanHorn trying to invite several politicians from the majority and opposition, just so as not to show a knife-edge in relations with them.
But who were the guests of the American Embassy in Tirana?
From the government:
Speaker of Parliament, Elisa Spiropali
Foreign Minister, Igli Hasani
Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu
Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhe
From the opposition:
Deputy Oerd Bylykbashi
Head of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu
Other heads of institutions:
Head of SPAK, Altin Dumani
Head of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni
Spiropali has been invited as the Speaker of Parliament, Hasani and Vengu are the two ministers with whom the American embassy has had the most "relationship" these days, due to the positions they have in the government and the geopolitical situation in the world and the region. From the opposition, a representative like Oerd Bylykbashi has been invited in name only, while Mediu has apparently used his connections with the Republicans to secure an invitation. Things no longer seem the same for Albanian politicians. With Trump coming to power, "friendship" with America remains the "American dream" for many politicians around the world, including our country./ Pamphlet
