Journalist Mentor Kikia, speaking about the financing of electoral campaigns, emphasized that political parties in Albania can be considered the blackest enterprises, since no one does transparency.
In an interview for the "Quo Vadis" show, he added that despite the accusations in public, the political forces have a silent agreement, that of not making transparent who sponsors them in the campaign, since in Albania the parties are all the time in the campaign.
" The problems are if we say that we don't know where you start from. There are some issues that are a priority, and for the elections the priority is the electoral reform, which is always left for the last week, then there is no more time to do what needs to be done. The commission has run out of time, now that artifice is expected. What still remains unresolved is what the engines of the parties work with in the campaign. Although the campaign is 45 days, we have 45 months, since the campaign never stops.
With what money does politics make campaigns? The budget that the government gives to the parties is very small, insufficient for the campaign, from rallies to concerts, advertisements, without counting the cash on hand that is distributed. It goes to the problem where the parties have in no case agreed without having any mediator, in order not to make transparency. Here the parties simply accuse each other. What remains problematic is the origin of the money that feeds, where people are paid, the government that uses the state machinery. It never went all the way. The CEC audit is only the invoices that the political parties submit there. In the 2013 elections, I was part of a team that did the monitoring, even though it was partial, and only from this monitoring it resulted that what the parties declared was only 30% of what we had extracted. Parties are the blackest enterprises ," he said.
