The French Embassy in Albania has reacted after Molotov cocktails were thrown at the former residence of dictator Enver Hoxha, during a protest organized by the Democratic Party of Albania.
In an official statement, the diplomatic mission strongly condemns the acts of violence, emphasizing that yesterday evening's events reached an unacceptable level with the attack on "Villa 31 - Art Explora Foundation".
Since 2025, Vila 31 has operated as a residence for international artists and is administered by a French foundation, with the aim of promoting cultural exchanges and strengthening ties between Albania and other countries .
"We strongly condemn the acts of violence that reached an unacceptable level last night with the attack on Vila 31 - Art Explora Foundation. Vila 31 has been a residency for international artists since 2025, managed by a French foundation. Its aim is to promote cultural exchanges and serve as a bridge between Albania and the rest of Europe. The organizers could not ignore this fact. The endangerment of residents and the damage caused are intolerable. The right to protest is not compatible with any form of violence. We call on the organizers to show responsibility , " the embassy's response reads .
The Embassy underlines that the right to protest is legitimate, but emphasizes that it cannot be combined with forms of violence, calling on the organizers to take responsibility for the conduct of the rallies.
