The Italian authorities have released Sokol Sinomatin from prison, less than a month and a half after his extradition from Albania.
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, 46-year-old Sinomati was released from Viterbo prison, near Rome.
Sinomati, it turned out that there was no prison sentence to be served in the territory of the Republic of Italy.
Known since childhood with the nickname "Buzderri", Sokol Sinomati is the father of 23-year-old Gezim Sinomati, who was executed by sniper on the balcony of his apartment in the city of Vlore.
The typical mafia assassination, carried out by hired killers on the evening of January 7, 2024, continues to be the most serious criminal event that occurred during this year.
After more than six months, the police and the prosecutor's office have not yet arrested anyone in connection with this event, starting with the executors, organizers and those who ordered the assassination.
The assassination happened only a few days after Gezim Sinomati had returned from Belgium, for the end-of-year holidays in the family's apartment in Vlore, while his father, Sokol Sinomati, was in the prison cells of Fushe Kruje, serving his sentence.
Sokol Sinomati, an important name in the late 90s and early 2000s, in the city of Vlore, was released from prison for only a few hours on April 24, 2024, benefiting from a pardon from the criminal amnesty.
His release only 4 months after his son was executed by sniper, was expected to upset many balances in the city of Vlore.
For this reason, the police used a conviction decision of the Italian authorities, to arrest Sinomati again, without allowing him to arrive free in his apartment.
At the time of the arrest, Sokol Sinomati was in the company of his brother, Bernard Sinomati.
The police officially announced a day later that:
"He executed the criminal decision for the citizen Sokol Sinomataj, 46 years old, whom the Court of Milan, in Italy, has sentenced to 12 years, 5 months and 26 days of imprisonment, for the criminal offenses of "Criminal Organization" and "Illegal Trafficking of Immigrants".
It seemed "strange" the release for a few hours and then the re-arrest of Sokol Sinomati, while the sentence by the Italian court for him had been in the police archive for some time.
Based on the criminal situation in the city of Vlore, the strong rivalry and fierce battle between the rival groups, as well as the fact that a well-known person was being released, only a short time after they had executed him for revenge against his son, it was judged that the presence of Sinomat in the coastal city could badly reignite the conflict.
Three days after the arrest, on April 27, the court imposed a security measure of 40 days in prison for Sinomati, pending the arrival of his file from Italy.
At the beginning of June 2024, 39 days after the arrest, Sokol Sinomati was extradited to Italy under extreme security measures, with the current idea, he would stay another decade away from his hometown.
The Italian authorities, after verifying the decision given by the court of Milan, at the address of Sinomat, have decided last Tuesday to release him, considering his sentence completed.
The attempt to keep Sokol Sinomat isolated in prison has already failed. The 46-year-old Vlonjati is free and motivated more than ever because of the murder of his son.
The Albanian authorities, when asked about this development, stated that they have no notice for Sinomat's release, according to them, he has not yet entered any border crossing point in the country's territory.
Meanwhile, in a direct communication with Sokol Sinomat via phone, he stated that;
"Since last marriage I have been free. The Italian authorities confirmed that I have no prison sentence to serve.
I am sorry for those who tried in every way to keep me isolated in Italian prisons, but now I am free and I have no legal obstacles to return to my city, to my family".
Sokol Sinomati, entered the city of Vlora for just a few hours, on January 9, 2024, to participate in the funeral ceremony of his son, accompanied under high security conditions by 100 police officers.
He was arrested for the last time outside the country, in 2021 in Belgium. At the end of 2022, he was extradited to Albania and remained in prison until the beginning of June of this year, when he was extradited to Italy.
