
The High Inspector of Justice, Artur Metani, has reacted after the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja inside the premises of the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Tirana, describing the event as a deep shock to the justice system and the rule of law.
Metani expressed his deepest condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of the deceased judge, while wishing a speedy recovery to the two citizens who were injured by gunfire.
"Today's tragedy, which took the life of a magistrate, affects the entire judiciary, the justice system, the rule of law and every public institution," the official response states.
The head of the ILD described the safety of judges as an absolute priority, demanding immediate commitment from all state institutions to guarantee the inviolability of every representative of justice who exercises his duty in the name of the law.
"We must commit without wasting time to guarantee the inviolability of every judge and prosecutor. Security must be an absolute priority for everyone," Metani underlined.
Finally, he expressed solidarity with the judiciary and encouraged judges and prosecutors to continue to perform their duties with determination, "beyond this serious event", by enforcing the law and protecting the dignity of the justice system.
