Foreshadowed event/ How three judges were threatened with death in the courtroom

Judge Astrit Kalaja was murdered in the courtroom today by young Elvis Shkambi, but this is not an unannounced event.

In October 2023, three judges were threatened in the courtroom. The prosecution then launched an investigation into threats against judges Valdete Hoxha, Lutfie Çelami, and Edlira Petri, who reported the attack and threats to their lives.

As Top Channel exclusively learned at the time, the judges requested the assistance of the capital's police immediately after announcing 35 years in prison for citizens Daut Elmazi and Gentian Zoto, 30 years in prison for Igli Memaj, and 25 years for Serxho Ademi and Albano Goxhaj.

The three judges were threatened in the Court of Appeals courtroom by relatives of the defendants, on the day they were sentenced on the charge of attempted murder under qualifying circumstances.

The five Vlorë men who were absent on the day of the verdict are accused of shooting through a moving vehicle in May 2019, targeting Ines Hajrulla, a rival in the criminal field. But the defendants insisted that the crime scene was manipulated by the local police at the time and that the courts did not consider their evidence to be correct.

None of the judges sought protection from the Supreme Court at the time, while the police increased the measures for the three justices.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court's judicial body reacted to all threats from judges and magistrates, including the threat against two prosecutors, Doloreza Musabelliu of SPAK and Merita Sinani, mentioned by the Lushnja criminal group because they investigated two members, Orges Bilbili and Anterio Kaloshi.

"With the belief that our fellow magistrates will continue to perform their duties with determination and responsibility, we support law enforcement agencies in taking immediate measures and holding the guilty accountable," the Supreme Court declared at the time. /Top Channel
