Cloperifos and phosmet are not part of the list of Agricultural Preparations that are allowed to be used in Albania.
It is from these pesticides that 60 tons of tangerines that were destined for export to the EU countries were returned as they resulted in high residues of these two dangerous poisons that tangerine farmers use to kill insects that damage the plant.
But cloperiphos is not a pesticide that is applied for the first time in our agriculture, on the contrary, there are two hypotheses as to why the tangerines of Konispol, Lushnja and Berat came out loaded with these chemicals.
"Due to the use of chlorperifos in the past years in these territories, it is possible that these residues are again in the soil or water and thus pass to the plants, and another way is that farmers have used these pesticides in spraying" , says lecturer Fredi Brahushi for "TCH".
The EU has removed chlorperifos and phosmetin from use in 2022 and 2020, respectively, because these two preparations had negative effects on human health.
"Irritations of the skin, eyes, dizziness until then in chronic actions related to their effects on the hormonal system and the endocrine system, some of these are also known for actions or mutagenic effects in humans.
Farmers refuse to use those chemicals that are friendly to the environment and bring less health consequences to humans, because they prefer to use those dangerous drugs that quickly fight plant insects.
"They have a higher effectiveness and this is related to the degree of toxicity and this toxicity makes it more effective on the one hand. But on the other hand, it is the impact on the environment and human health," he said.
The introduction of these two poisons is done through the smuggling route and is sold privately by agricultural pharmacies. This is not the first time that the agricultural products of our farmers are returned to their country of origin to be destroyed.
