
The Foreign Policy Commissions in the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies in Italy have approved the pension agreement with Albania, together with the amendments for the allocation of the relevant funds.
Now all that remains is the vote in the plenary session, for this agreement that affects tens of thousands of Albanians. Meanwhile, the agreement in the Albanian Parliament has been approved and published in the Official Gazette.
We remind you that the object of this agreement is the benefits from the compulsory social insurance scheme, which include insurance for old age, disability and family pension, insurance for benefits for sickness and pregnancy and unemployment insurance.
There are over 500 thousand Albanian citizens in Italy who are direct beneficiaries of this agreement and about 4 thousand Italian citizens in Albania.
Thus, all Albanians living in Italy will benefit from the Compulsory General Insurance for disability, old-age and family pensions of employed workers, special treatment for self-employed workers such as artisans, traders, farmers and sickness benefit insurance.
After July 6, Albanians on the verge of retirement must apply to the Social Insurance Institute in the Italian and Albanian states, making it possible to receive two pensions, according to the years of work that have contributed. There are about 500 thousand Albanians who benefit from the agreement with Italy, as well as 4 thousand Italian citizens who will benefit from a pension in Albania.
Likewise, Albanians who retired before 2024 can apply to benefit from this agreement.
To receive a pension in Italy, you need 20 years of work, while to receive a pension in Albania, 15 years of work are enough.
