Journalist Artan Hoxha spoke about the opening of the American DEA office in Tirana.
Hoxha said that in the past, the DEA has provided information to the Albanian authorities about companies involved in drug trafficking, but no action has been taken. He adds that the company is already well known and has only grown.
Artan Hoxha said that the arrival of the DEA is not a success for the authorities, but shows the growth of drug trafficking.
"The DEA has had a presence in Tirana in recent years, with consultancy also at the law enforcement institutions. Until now, it has covered Albania, the office in Greece. Now its mind is full. The DEA, even though it had an office in Athens, has understood better have it here.
Two weeks ago, we mentioned the case of a Fier firefighter who was caught with a record amount of drugs, 600 kilos of cocaine. Now, 600 kg have exceeded 100 million euros.
The DEA says we are putting the headquarters more centrally. The authorities presented it as a high level of cooperation. They have been here, they even brought information. They even brought information that such and such a company deals with cocaine. Now it has become a big company!
