Camorra boss Luigi Cacciapuoti has been arrested in Campania, a few kilometers from Naples.
Italian media write that the 64-year-old, who was on the run, is believed to be the head of the homonymous clan operating in Villaricca and neighboring municipalities.
The Camorra boss was betrayed by a puppy, the "faithful friend" of a woman who met the boss.
Investigators spotted the dog peering through a half-closed window of a large villa, raising suspicions that this was Cacciapuoti's hiding place. After the house was raided, the man was arrested and taken to prison in Secondigliano.
The hunt, which lasted several months, ended in a villa with a swimming pool near the coast of Giugliano in Campania, in the village of Varcaturo. The boss, who must serve 15 years in prison for mafia organization, was arrested by the carabinieri of the investigative unit of Castello di Cisterna, coordinated by the anti-mafia directorate of the Neapolitan district. Cacciapuoti was untraceable for some time.
Initially, the military managed to surround the area where the 64-year-old was probably hiding, i.e. the village of Varcaturo, this became possible thanks to traditional and technical investigations, social media monitoring and financial movements. But the exact location of the hideout was still unclear. So they beat every trail, scouring the entire area, until one day they noticed something strange in a cottage.
From the window of that house, in fact, a puppy had been seen, whose owner was a woman who met Cacciapuoti. And so the suspicion grew among the investigators that this could be the hideout of the fugitive. The military then planned the attack, analyzing every possible escape route, including the municipal sewage system that ran underground.
On the day of the flash, they surrounded the villa, blocking all exits. Cacciapuoti noticed this when the carabinieri were now a step away from him, lying by the pool while reading a news article on the Camorra in Ponticelli, a neighborhood east of Naples. At the time of arrest, he did not resist.

It is not the first time that the clan has suffered a serious blow: at the beginning of June the carabinieri and the financial police, coordinated by the DDA, had announced 19 arrests. As it resulted from the investigations, the clan developed a large turnover, demonstrated by the business of 11 seized companies, 16 million euros per year, but also by the high standard of living of the subsidiaries. In addition to entrepreneurship, the Villaricca clan also managed drug trafficking, extortion and had a significant supply of weapons. If the Ferraras were in charge of the business, as investigations have shown, the military arm was delegated to Cacciapuoti.
