Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has found time in a press release from Kiev to make an inappropriate joke about the death of the leader of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Zelensky initially said Kiev bears no responsibility for the death of Prigozhin, who reportedly died on August 23 after his plane crashed over Moscow.

Zelensky then joked about linking his ongoing appeal to Western allies to donate F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine with the death of Wagner's boss.

"We have nothing to do with this situation. I think everyone knows who is involved. When I asked my partners for air support, I didn't think about it," Zelensky said ironically.

While Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken for the first time about the crash of the plane carrying Yevgeny Prigozhin.

During his speech, Putin sent his condolences to the families of the victims and described Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin as a talented businessman.

In a televised address, Putin says investigators will look into what happened, but that it will take time.

He says he was told about Wednesday's plane crash on Thursday morning. Putin also says that Prigozhin only returned from Africa on Wednesday and that he had met some officials there.
