The head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was allegedly killed on Wednesday evening when a private Embraer Legacy jet crashed on the Moscow-St Petersburg route in the Tver region near the village of Kuzhenkino.
While much is already known about the 'Wagner' band boss, less is known about the family he left behind.
Who are the members of Prigozhin's family?
He was married and had three children. Prigozhin's wife is Lyubov Valentinovna Prigozhina, who is also wealthy (her husband's net worth is estimated at $1 billion).
Ljubov is a pharmacist who owns a boutique known as the "Chocolate Museum" in St. Petersburg. In 2012, he opened the "Kristal" spa in Saint Petersburg, which won the "Perfect Spa Project" award the following year. It owns the companies "New Technologies SPA LLC" and "Agat", part of the "Concord" group.
The Financial Times writes that Ljubov has played "various roles" in her husband's business empire, along with other family members. Prigogine's children all had shares in their father's companies, and these were often exchanged between them.
Prigozhin's children
In 2019, the eldest daughter Polina was a shareholder in the Russian company "Lahta Plaza", which in March 2022 was placed under US sanctions. It is now under the control of Prigozhin's son, Pavel.
