Four months after the May 11 elections, the CEC leaves 3,300 counters unpaid

Even though more than 4 months have passed since the May 11 elections, 3,300 counters have not received their payments for their work on the days of vote counting.

Throughout Albania, 3,327 counters were appointed for these elections, who would be paid based on an order of the Central Election Commission signed on January 8, 2025.

The order also determines the payment for this position, where for a counter the payment would be 6,000 lek.

So if we calculate the budget that the CEC has allocated for them, it is around 20 million lek.

Diaspora vote counters completed their process on May 20, 9 days after Election Day.

A teller complained on the show "Fiks Fare" without making her name public, stating that she has not yet received the money for the work she did in counting votes.

"Even though the payment is ridiculous, they're not giving us that either. We went to the post office and they told us it hasn't arrived yet. We don't know what to do," said the teller.

Fiksi also requested a response from the Central Election Commission, which clarifies that it has transferred the funds to the municipalities. In its response, the CEC clarifies that "The Central Election Commission, in letter no. 5665, dated 23.07.2025 "We send a transfer of budgetary funds for the payment of commissioners of the ZAZ, VC, GNV, in function of the elections of May 11, 2025", has sent the necessary funds to the municipalities with a designated destination for the remuneration of members of the election commissions in the elections for the Assembly of May 11, 2025, specifically:

Remuneration for the Commissioners of the electoral administration zones (CEAZ)

Remuneration for VCC polling station commissioners

Reward for members of the GNV vote counting teams

The payment of remuneration for the Commissioners of EAZs, VCs and GNVs is made according to the payslips submitted by the Election Administration Zone Commission to the respective Municipality.

All lists submitted late or incomplete by the CEAZs have been included and processed in the second fund, which was transferred from the CEC to the municipalities with letter no. 5858, dated 18.08.2025 "We are sending a transfer of budgetary funds for the payment of commissioners of the ZAZ, VC, GNV, in function of the elections of May 11, 2025".

The Central Election Commission has made budgetary funds available to each municipality.

So the CEC sent the last fund in August, blaming the municipalities for not yet distributing the money to the counters./ TCH
