The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has granted Greek citizenship to Albanian Levian Goga, who in June of this year risked his life to save two children from the Arachthos River. The citizenship granting ceremony took place in the presence of Mitsotakis, Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios and the Secretary General for Citizenship Affairs, Dimitris Karnavos.
A special act of respect came after Goga's courage, who intervened without thinking to save two minors who were in danger of drowning, putting his own life at risk. Prime Minister Mitsotakis described Goga as an inspiring example of humanity and heroism.
" Thank you for what you did. You deserve this honor and more ," Mitsotakis said, immediately after Goga was sworn in as a Greek citizen.
Levian Goga was also the guest of honor at the reception for the anniversary of the restoration of democracy in Greece, organized in July by the Speaker of Parliament, Kostas Tasoulas.
The tragic event occurred in June 2025 in the Arahthos River in Arta, when Goga pulled two children, ages 12 and 14, from the water. Although he did his best to save them, both children died in the hospital, while their parents decided to donate their organs, saving other lives.
This gesture of Goga, now accepted by the Greek state, became a symbol of sacrifice and human values that transcend borders and nationalities.
